  1. *nods* the vampire thing got a no go back when my son was 9, he is now 18, when i caught him on another server RPing a vampire - he informed me that he and two other vampires were killing and eating elves.

Well that did it for me.

So now you all know why there are no vampire RP on Annakolia *twinkles and fades into the dark*

    *grin*

  2. Hello!!! I have a few questions for anyone that wants to help this newbie out....

    1. Is this server free?

    2. ow many characters am I allowed to have?

    2. Do we have a custom automatic character creation system? If so what races are available to choose from it?

3.What kind of crafting is available here, besides armor and weapons, and what can I do with the systems? Would I be able to play a pure crafter/artisan/tradesman without having to be a mercenary/warrior? (Im especially wondering if there are player-triggering,automatic crafting systems for: non-combat tool-making, tailoring, furniture-making, and book-making)

    4. Is the economy persistent with currencies, and will I be able to rent persistent chests to save items in, as a character? Is there a job market and player-run businesses?

    4. Is travel safe, and in what ways can we travel as characters? In character creation, are we able to choose the city that the character lands in or is there only one?

    1) The server is free - since I own the server, I can assure you it is free to play on

    2) You can have as many PCs (player Characters) as you wish to have. We impose no limit.

    2) We have custom classes - most information you need is provided for you in your journal when you log onto the server. These classes are secondary or even third class options, requiring you to take one of Bioware's standard classes to begin your character.

    3) The crafting question is difficult to answer since we are in process of building and expanding a custom crafting system we call ROAR or Realms fo Annakolia Resources. Much of what you are asking about in detail is being built and a class being made but not functional at present. There is functional crafting and systems are being added - baking and cooking are very important crafts at present with others in progress.

    4) A very complex question to answer in full and detail without massing pages and pages of text so to keep it short - Yes, but there is more too it than a simple yes. We have a way to mail crafted materials for trades to another player who is not on and the package will be delivered when that player logs onto the server. There are BBs players can use on the server to arrange transactions or they can use the forum as well.

    5) Travel can be very dangerous however along the roads, not too difficult - off the road or roads away from main cities - trouble. One enters Annakolia in the "Entry Area" which is a floating platform far above the world surface. There are portals to a number of the major cities one can take, however there is only one a new player should take for all the low level, get started things, are off the main entrance.

Once one has been to the city of Annakolia and perhaps Amber Flame Castle and the dungeons there, a new character will be better per-paired for travel and other areas. At first, lvl advancement is rapid and slows way down by level nine or ten. This is done for a reason, survival. Gathering raw materials to cook and bake from the Shire farms can be great fun and the end products very rewarding and useful. Getting to the Shire farms and the Shire is fairly safe but for the first bit of forest where things can go very wrong - good to know how to run if one is very vulnerable and bring a dog or cat henchman.

There is mobile persistent storage when one buys a horse or pony or pack animal.

  3. Is the Elven Cloths, broken for everyone - just that armor or variation of it? Any PCs having trouble with that armor?

This is the first report i have on it but since all clothing is cep only, i wonder if i messed up something when i updated the cep last time.

    I will look into it.

  4. Southern desert as in the Bane Desert or are you talking HH desert?

Elven shaman - are you referring to Drow hostile elves or some other elves? The Drow elves are Bioware, not custom so not likely to be something broken here on Annakolia but i need to find out exactly what creature it is and check. If it is a part creature, wearing clothing, it could be a glitching piece of armor or clothing - however will only know when exact area is IDed - if the creatures are hostile or non hostile NPCs and there name, other than elven shaman, if any.

  5. Which plan is more likely to be successful?

I don't know - the 100 dollar pro recovery route is fairly certain to work - the other method I have never done or tried but Malishara said she thinks it would work - *shrugs*.

  6. That module resides on my old machine which is, at present, no longer operational. A virus has wiped the boot sequence off the HD of my old machine - it can be repaired but i do not possess the tools to do so and a shop visit for that fix is going to cost at least 100 dollars.

I do have an alternate plan to install Linux and retrieve files but that is, at present, not a priority and is new ground for me so not exactly a short easy fix either.

  7. A testing module?

I occasionally run a test for various reasons but to not host a testing module for players. A very long time ago there was a character builder tester, back where the custom classes were new - just to test them - however that is long gone and no longer needed.

The tester was essentially to find bugs in the classes and players were helping out by testing the classes in a very limited environment - is this what you are talking about?

Anyway - the ONLY world I am hosting is Annakolia at this time. There was a plan once to host a separate module/world that players could port back and forth to and from - however this is not currently planned anymore.

  8. we have our ports set to different numbers

Just for everyone's clarification, I did not mean your household were the ones with port problems - others who might have logged on and off who were afflicted with the problem effects everyone else who comes on while they are on or AFTER they leave - everyone becomes a potential victim of the unstable server once it has been hit.

  9. I have no idea what is happened, however - level XP loss happens when there is a server crash - one has leveled up and the character not been saved before a server crash or shutdown without the character being saved.

I also remember, some very odd things, including save problems, can happen when two or more people log into the server sharing the same IP and then do NOT take the time to set separate ports in their nwnplayer.ini file:

    [Profile]

    ShowMessageOfTheDay=0

Client Port=5120 (This should be set to 5121 or 5122 or 5123 - for second, third or fourth person sharing the SAME IP)

Once the server is hit with this port problem, it is screwed - EVEN IF THOSE PEOPLE LOG OFF AND ARE GONE - and the difficulties, ranging from a character becoming a global character, bad lag, deleting all characters in the folders, not saving a character on log off, and much more CAN happen. I have not observed this difficulty of late but have not looked at the server since Friday.

The only thing can be done is for a DM to award you the levels - which can happen but is not standard policy - standard policy is to refuse such requests for obvious reasons or abuse - however, as i said, there are exceptions.

Did a server crash or restart happen while you were playing?

Did you exit the game and all seemed proper?

We did have some people with some overrides for old D20 system causing this - are you using overrides?

Sorry, those are the only reasons known to me for this difficulty.

  10. Cannot see the new mounts would indicate you need to update to cep 2.4 - that, or need an annakolia update - one or the other or both.

Demolicious - Glad you alerted me to someone's attempt to post an unofficial CEP. That information was important - I was not responsible for removing the file, however someone must have either removed the file, for the poster (the vault), or the poster thought better of posting it and removed it themselves.

When the next CEP comes out it will be 2.5 - not 3.0. 3.0 would have to have some major changes - additions or something very major to warrant a new level without going through the progression.

  11. I think the full download is complete but check against dates of updates and apply all - get the full download first.

I do not know what the issue is on the computer that did not work there but my laptop does not like some of the more advanced tilesets - i only crash in the one swamp tileset but do run slower in that tileset you are having trouble with. Set the res lower and see if that helps.

I have a MB graphics on the laptop - not too bad for a laptop but nothing like what the desktop with the 9800 Nvidia graphics card can do - BIG difference on speed and response.

ALSO - one can crash out on tilesets EVEN Bioware standard tilesets - one game a few years ago both HH and Wolfgang crashed on the same standard tileset - after they both ran defrags of their hard drives they had no problems.

NWN is time sensitive on finding and loading graphic components - if the HD access is fragmented the time to find and load the components to make the scene is slower - too slow and NWN crashes.

  12. There is NO CEP 3.0 - if it exists, it is unofficial - I am the CEP head and have done the CEP for since 2.1 which was first posted on 04-23-2008 - SO -- i joined the CEP Team 10-03-2006 which means i have been on the CEP Team and basically doing it for SIX YEARS.

Malishara is also on the CEP Team.

We should know if there were/is a CEP 3.0. IF anyone has put up a version, it was NOT posted by the CEP Team and is NOT official.

The latest version of CEP is 2.4 - I posted that under the CEP Team account on the vault - a new CEP is in the works and some people are helping but I will retain control over content and 2da changes to maintain CEP values and integrity, no one has permission to take CEP and do otherwise.

I am rather sensitive over this issue as i have paid dearly in defending CEP and myself against years of onerous, savage attacks that went into conspiracy, libel, and including death threats - so yes i have paid my dues and do not relinquish to anybody the right to modify and post CEP.

  13. Below - Content from the OLD Annakolia Forum - This critical information is being reposted for ease of finding and make sure everyone is reminded of these points.

I went to find this and quote it and seems it was pruned sometime or other. I consider this material important and all need to read it. Shocked

Quote from the Dungeon Master's Guide 1.0 edition page 23 - 24 (the edition this world uses for such information)

    Neutral Evil:

Similar to the neutral good alignment, that of neutral evil holds that neither groups nor individuals have great meaning. This ethos holds that seeking to promote weal for all actually brings woe to the truly deserving. Natural forces which are meant to cull out the weak and stupid are artificially suppressed by so-called good, and the fittest are wrongfully held back, so whatever means are expedient can be used by the powerful to gain and maintain their dominance, without concern for anything.

Please note the key phrases --

    Whatever means are expedient

Maintain their dominance, without concern for ANYTHING.

This does not fit a social character who i would play with -- ever.

    Lawful Evil:

Obviously, all order is not good, nor are all laws beneficial. Lawful evil creatures consider order as the means by which each group is properly placed in the cosmos, from lowest to highest, strongest first, weakest last. Good is seen as an excuse to promote the mediocrity of the whole and suppress the better and more capable, while lawful evilness allows each group to structure itself and fix its place as compared to others, serving the stronger but being served by the weaker.

    Chaotic Evil:

The chaotic evil creature holds that individual freedom and choice is important and that other individuals and their freedoms are unimportant if they cannot be held by the individuals through their own strength and merit. Thus, law and order tends to promote not individuals but groups, and groups suppress individual volition and success.

    Note –

Lawful Evil does not uphold or strive to follow society’s laws at all. LE strives to follow the law of the cosmos in the strength of each group and structuring an evil society based on that.

    Note –

Chaotic Evil is pure selfish and cares nothing for anyone but themselves. They value strength and the more they can get, the better.

None of these three alignment viewpoints, if followed and properly played, are workable for a PC. All DM sessions I run are involved with helping others or saving someone or cooperating in a group.

    Neutral:

Absolute, or true, neutral creatures view everything with exists as an integral, necessary part or function of the entire cosmos. Each thing exists as a part of the whole, one as a check or balance to the other, with life necessary for death, happiness for suffering good for evil, order for chaos, and vice versa. Nothing must ever become predominate or out of balance. Within this naturalistic ethos, humankind serves a role also, just as all other creatures do. They may be more or less important, but the neutral does not concern himself or herself with those considerations except where it is positively determined that the balance is threatened. Absolute neutrality is in the central or fulcrum position quite logically, as the neutral sees all other alignments as parts of a necessary whole. This alignment is the narrowest in scope.

    Neutral Good:

Creatures of this alignment see the cosmos as a place where law and chaos are merely tools to use in bringing life, happiness, and prosperity to all deserving creatures. Order is not good unless it brings this all; neither is randomness and total freedom desirable if it does not bring such good.

    Lawful Good:

Creatures of lawful good alignment view the cosmos with varying degrees of lawfulness or desire for good. They are convinced that order and law are absolutely necessary to assure good, and that good is best defined as whatever brings the most benefit to the greater number of decent, thinking creatures and the least woe to the rest.

    Lawful Neutral:

It is the view of the alignment that law and order give purpose and meaning to everything. Without regimentation and strict definition, there would be no purpose in the cosmos. Therefore, whether a law is good or evil is of no import as long as it brings order and meaning.

    Chaotic Good:

To the chaotic good individual, freedom and independence are as important to life and happiness. The ethos views this freedom as the only means by which each creature can achieve true satisfaction and happiness, law, order, social forms, and anything else which tends to restrict or abridge individual freedom is wrong, and each individual is capable of achieving self-realization and prosperity through himself, herself, or itself.

    Chaotic Neutral:

This view of the cosmos holds that absolute freedom is necessary. Whether the individual exercising such freedom chooses to do good or evil is of no concern. After all, life itself is law and order, so death is a desirable end. Therefore, life can only be justified as a tool by which order is combated and in the end it too will pass into entropy.

    Law And Chaos:

The opposition here is between organized groups and individuals. That is, law dictates that order and organization is necessary and desirable, while chaos holds to the opposite view, Law generally supports the group as more important then the individual, while chaos promotes the individual over the group.

I do not accept ANY other source or discussion on the nature of allignment but version 1.0 DMG.

There are many opinions running around on how to play and how to define alignment. For this server, THERE IS ONLY ONE -- Dum Dum Dum *dark serious music*

I do not argue the point. I will not listen to another view. It is version 1.0 DMG and that is all.

With so many opposing opinions out there if I let people pick and choose there is no assurity that I know what is going on. Since I want alignments played with the 1.0 DMG understanding, that is a clear guide and statement. No other

I agree with the above post, and understand that it is not up for debate.

However, I would just like to point out that (logically and IMO) a Lawful Evil character 'could' follow the laws of society but 'if' they did, would most likely twist them to their own means.

For example.... A Lawyer who has seen a loop-hole in the law and utilises it to make a lot of money, regardless of how it effects other people.

Or a murderer who has learned that he is allowed to kill someone if they enter his property without his permission, so he leaves the door open and waits for people to wander in.

As Barry has stated however, these are not really characters who I would like to group with.

  14. Welcome to Annakolia.

There are players and DMs about, however, we do need to build a larger player base which is rather difficult these days as so many have moved on to other games.

The advantages of playing on Annakolia however is huge -

    1) The world is nearly 2,000 areas - lots of places to go and things to see and do.

    2) World history is rich and well developed.

    3) The experience is not repetitive - spawns with the now famous Sparky Spawner (developed on Annakolia by Malishara) keeps the spawns rich and varied as well as their locations - so you cannot learn, oh when i step past there it spawns and Xmonster at that location over there.

    4) When they are on, our DMs are top notch D&D DMs

  15. There is a lot of history/world information, however not all is published. Some is for DM eyes only - some is just not written in any readable form and some is still only transmitted by verbal account due to all of us being too lazy to take the oodles of time required to write it down.

There is a timeline stretching back some five or six thousand years at least describing some major world events and where they fit in time. I thought those use to be available for download - however the server is now TEN years -- ACTUAL 10 years IN REAL TIME - and such things, although they may be up and about - i certainly don't know were at the moment.

    ANYONE KNOW???

I will try and find them and point them out, however at the moment i am getting ready for USFSA Mid-sectionals for my Son Wolfgang and have zilch time for anything else, mostly - and won't until done - i have not even been able to play in two games i never miss and DM one game i faithfully DMed for the last ten years.

I hope to get back to playing and DMing when the madness is over (National Figure Skating Competition for 2011) - but 2012 season will start -- however completion season does not start until August so yes training but time may be found.

So, until them i hope others will help find the materials - and if not on line i will do my best to post them.

  16. Charissa, Wolfgang and I were sick this week, Charissa had to miss 2 days of work which is very unusual - missed Girl Rangers and Halflings - Wolfgang hit his head in a fall friday and was resting - he is fine.

We have to be away today and don't know what time we will get home, meaning I am unsure if I can run Feisty Chicken today.

If we get back in time I plan to run the game but I don't know if timing will be supportive of that.
