Aisha: Mistress of Night, the Gatherer of Souls

Kharados the Mage was a powerful man, and like all powerful men he loved beautiful things; his beautiful mansions, his beautiful tower, his beautiful gardens, his beautiful treasury and, most of all, his beautiful elven wife Arvalan.

Yet Kharados feared, as all, powerful, men do, one thing – Kharados feared his own death. And so he honed his magic and, by hiding his heart in the shadowy folds of magics mantle he held the hand of Hades at bay - and over the ages the wrath of Hades grew.

Then there came a time of joy to Arvalan, though Kharados was racked with fear, for she fell pregnant with child and, in time, she gave birth to a girl child, radiant and bright, that she named Corinda for the light that seemed to glimmer about her.

But after the birth of her child Aravalan sickened and grew gravely ill, pale and feverish; for three days the stricken elf lay still and silent upon her birthing bed until, at midnight of the third night, her piercing scream shook the household.

In the night Arvalan gave birth to a second daughter, but Aisha was born with cold eyes and a darkened skin; in giving Aisha life her mother perished, for the strain of her labour proved too great for the fragile elf maid.

Kharados was devastated and distraught yet, as his daughters grew to beautiful young women, he found pleasure anew for, while Aisha herself grew tall and fair, Corinda grew to be the glorious image of her mother; and for that Kharados loved Corinda the more.

So it was that Hades conceived a plan and whispered long over many years to Aisha in the deep of the night whence Aisha learned her dark arts, and made her pact with the ‘cheated’ Lord of the Dead.

There came a time of great rejoicing, for the young ladys were to come of age and Kharados ensured the day would be remembered in the memories of those he wished to impress, though for Corinda (as always) was the day mostly blessed.

It was there that, at the height of the festivities, Aisha struck, erasing the burden of her troubled youth.

Beautiful fireworks graced the twilight skies as Kharados embraced his most beloved daughter before all who sought his favour, Aisha stepped unseen from the shadows and slew her twin sister with a single stroke of her shimmering blade.

In that instant, as Corinda fell, within the shadowy folds of magics mantle the heart of Kharados was frozen, shattered and broken to myriad pieces, and death’s hand found Kharados at last.

And thus, amid the jubilant laughter of Hades, Aisha, Mistress of Night, the Gatherer of Souls, slipped unseen in to the Immortal Dark.

Hades - God of the Underworld, Wealth and Death

The elder brother of Zeus, God of the Air, Hades rarely leaves his underground kingdom, here the dead reside, and fade, after death; Cerberus and Charon guard the other gate to his realm.

Symbol: A dark and open faced helm.

Clerical Domains: Death, Earth, Healing, Protection.

Hades, alone, of all the gods holds the right to restore life to the truely dead; a right which he guards jealously so much so that those that strive to live on after their rightful time atract is attention and his ire.

So long has Hades resided in the twilight of his realm that the harsh light of even the darkest night is an anathema; thus it is that another, Aisha, Mistress of Night, now gathers the souls of the dead and seeks restitution of those that seek to deny the underworld lord.

Beliefs:

Hades has the power to bring death or wealth to any mortal and his priests hoard the gold collected as fees for raising the dead in the dark caverns that serve as his temples.

Kebunam, the Executioner

Domains -none-

Clerical Domains - Destruction, Evil.

Kebunam is as much a god as it is merely some form of higher being, perhaps at a time it was a messenger of some god or maybe a champion or such. Regardless Kebunam evolved into something much more sinister.

Kebunam is a huge lizardlike creature who dwells in hot humid regions. It has eyes that can see all around and arms that he can turn into razor-sharp scythes at will. Hence his nickname, The Executioner.

Kebunam possesses the power to look into people's minds and take their worst nightmares. He will take the form of this nightmare and make it seem as real as life itself. The results of this can vary, some may die in that nightmare and thus also in life. Others may go mad in the nightmare that is Kebunam and turn into complete lunatics. Others may try to resist the nightmare and if they become too much of a hassle either be released, or taught why Kebunam is called the Executioner.

In truth Kebunam has little to gain from these diabolic practises, it does not gain power from killing, nor does it serve any greater goal to bring people's nightmares into reality. It does it because it can, because its twisted mind has nothing better to occupy itself with.

Kebunam's followers are often lizards or evil shamans and dream weavers. However their power never comes directly from Kebunam itself. It couldn't care less if people would follow it or not, they may be saved if they happen to bring another victim as an offering, but only because it's occupied with that victim, not because they are such good followers.

Some tribes who worship Kebunam have been known to capture groups of people and release them deep within the tropical jungle as an offering to the Nightmare Lord. Not that this truly keeps them any safer then they already were, but better save then sorry. After all, no one wants to face their worst nightmare.

As Kebunam does not directly grant power to anyone who claims to be its follower this holds some consequences for its priesthood. Most of the time they either serve another deity as well, or are arcane casters. One could come a short way on believing in oneself and thereby drawing upon power, maybe slightly further by believing that Kebunam somehow favors you. In the end however a priest who purely worships Kebunam will hit a barrier to its power in the divine arts. That or die because of people who killed the priest for his evil practises, the priest killing himself over realising his god does not favour him at all, or because the priest believed so much in his faith that he thought Kebunam would not hurt him while he tried to watch an execution.

Kebunam possesses but one true enemy, namely Loki who betrayed him in a fight against Tyr. Kebunam was persuaded to fight along side Loki against Tyr, but when it came to it Loki fled and left Kebunam to die. It did not take kindly to that, and after it managed to escape it made a vow to itself to one day make Loki's worse nightmare reality.

MASK - Lord of Shadows

Mask is a deity who has been alledged to have had a loss in power. Many other religions percieve Mask as a Lesser Deity.

Mask is the god of rogues, thieves, and is the lord of shadows. He appears as a lithe man garbed in dark clothing and a cloak of shadows. He always wears a black velvet mask, tinged with red; this has also become his symbol.

Mask is very self-possessed and confident - often too confident for his own good.

All that which occurs within shadow is in the purview of Mask. Ownership is nine-tenths of what is right. Previous ownership does not count. Therefore the day belongs to the quick, the smooth-tongued, and the light fingered. Stealth and wariness are virtues, as are glibness and the ability to sound smooth-tongued and conciliatory while taking control of a situation or twisting it to your advantage.

In addition to thieves and more shadowy individuals, courtiers and diplomats have been known to evoke the god's name in hopes of guaranteering a smooth negotiation.

The Temple of Mask is segregated into different factions. These factions constantly battle each other for supremacy, such as the Temple in Annakol and the Temple outside Farwest City. Each of these factions deem the other to be as viable a target as any traveller. In rare circumstances, individuals may even turn on their own factions brethren.

It is rumored that, if the internal hostility was finally laid to rest, that Mask may even gain in prominence once more. However, the factions differences run too deep and neither seems capable of compromise.

Masks factions have many enemies, but they both seem to have a mutual disliking for Oghma, Eirene and Saint Marcus. The faction outside Farwest City adds Tyr to its list of enemies.
